Tolentino April 28th 2009 – After great athletes of the calibre of Alain Bernard, Cesar Cielo and Milorad Cavic, Arena, the leading sports waterwear company, has added another top-flight sprinter to its Elite Team of international swimming champions, by signing a two-year agreement with the Swede Stefan Nystrand (28), who will don the Company’s three-diamond logo until 2011.

Nystrand

Nystrand, a specialist in the 50m and 100m freestyle, has emerged in the last few years as one of the major stars of pure speed racing, by clinching several prestigious victories at both European and World levels. We recall the bronze medal in the 100m freestyle at the Melbourne World Championships in 2007 and, more recently, the silver in the 100m freestyle, the bronze in the 50m freestyle and the gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay won at the Eindhoven European Championships in 2008.

He has also clocked up many short-course successes, such as the bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle at the Manchester World Championships (2008), the silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the Shanghai World Championships (2006) and the silver in the 50m freestyle at the Indianapolis World Championships (2004), apart from the 5 golds (4 in 50m freestyle and 1 in the 4x50m freestyle) won at various meetings of the European Championships in 25m pool.

“The decision to link up with an unquestionable champion like Stefan has a double value for us – stated Giuseppe Musciacchio – Arena Group Marketing Director. On the one hand it enables us to add another exceptionally pure talent to the Arena Elite Team, who has all the qualities to find a long-lasting position as an absolute star of sprint-swimming racing, the type of competitions that really grab the attention and imagination of swimming enthusiasts. On the other hand, he represents a further tangible sign of the Company’s commitment to the Swedish market, only a few months after signing a highly important partnership agreement with the National Swimming Federation.

“I’m really happy to have signed this agreement – declared the Swedish champion. Arena is a brand that for years has dedicated its best resources to swimming, and that represents, for me, just as for every other athlete, the certainty of counting on a solid and reliable partner who is able to provide absolute top quality technical equipment. It’s really important to know this in the context of my own personal growth plan, which is aiming at even better results than those obtained so far, starting with the upcoming World Championships in Rome.”
